Press Release Summary = Awareness is knowledge gained through perception. Alertness
is quickness of recognition and response. Vigilance is being on the lookout for what
is potentially harmful or dangerous. One must choose what things to pay attention to
and what things to ignore. It\'s a simple fact in the Information Age; there is too
much information.

Press Release Body = Are you aware, alert and vigilant? These words help
differentiate between knowing something and not knowing - between being dull and
unaware, or alert and fully cognizant of one\'s surroundings. Awareness is knowledge
gained through perception. Alertness is quickness of recognition and response.
Vigilance is being on the lookout for what is potentially harmful or dangerous. One
must choose what things to pay attention to and what things to ignore. It\'s a simple
fact in the Information Age; there is too much information.

Practice a different story

It\'s different with a practice. The more awareness the better. The more information
the better. Almost anything that you become aware of in your practice, you can
change. And your livelihood depends on your awareness, alertness and vigilance. But
awareness is not enough. There is a very important distinction between awareness and
intelligent focused action that is in alignment with your intentions. If for example
fewer and fewer new patients appear on the schedule, a doctor who is alert and
vigilant swings into action. \"Initiate an inactive patient recall system
immediately,\" she says, handing a C.A. a stack of former patient files. \"Call and
confirm every patient scheduled for today,\" she instructs her receptionist, \"and
when you are done, call anybody who is dropped off the schedule in the last month.\"
She then gets on the phone, sets up a lecture with a local union, puts an ad in the
newspaper for a Community Relations Director and schedules lunchtime appointments
with a dentist,
a podiatrist and an attorney who have sent her patients in the past.

Excuses v. action

Unfortunately, awareness ignored does not sit quietly. Another doctor-noticing a
steady decline of new patients-is negligent and reluctant to act. He chooses to stay
comfortable rather than take the necessary actions that will handle the challenge.
At this point, that doctor begins to become less aware, less able to perceive his
surroundings, and much more susceptible to delusion. \"It\'s just because of the
normal decline in the business cycle,\" he says. (He heard that somewhere and it
sounds good, so he uses it to plaster over his uneasiness.) As he sits in his office
reading the newspaper, he eagerly seizes on an article about the recession, bad
economic climate, etc. His awareness has shifted from the facts of his practice
(decline of new patients, doctor sitting reading the paper) to awareness of anything
that seems to confirm the \"rightness\" of his inaction (it\'s not my fault).
Awareness, alertness and vigilance take a left turn and instead of serving his
survival and well- being
, begin to serve his excuses, inaction and decline. If he sits in that chair long
enough and if his excuses are vivid enough, he will eventually go bankrupt. Right
up to the point he loses his practice, he will be alert for confirmation that he is
doing the right thing, he will be aware of how bad it all is, and he will be
vigilant against anyone who tries to paint a different scenario. Awareness serves
intention. Someone wanting to buy a new car notices new cars everywhere. A painter
notices scenery, an architect is aware of buildings. A chiropractor, driving down
the street on a Sunday, watches hundreds of people leaving church, and sees new
patients. A clear intention to make a difference in the lives of others will
attract new awareness and resources to support that intention. Making a decision to
fulfill this type of intention will suddenly shift your universe-and YOU-into
action.www.NewPatientsOnline.com
